Taiwan government research cited by Reuters estimates China spent more than US$21 billion on Taiwan Strait drills in 2024, up about 40% over 2023. The report also says PLA flights in the Strait rose 30% and naval sailings 20%. Neither Beijing nor Taipei confirmed the figures, but the buildup has stoked concern in Washington and across the region.
